What is a microchip?

A microchip is an encoded electronic device, inserted under the skin of an animal by a veterinarian or under his supervision, that contains a unique code linked to a central database recognized by the City, serving to identify and inventory domestic animals.   

Do I have to buy a license if my cat is microchipped?

No, if your cat is microchipped, you do not need to buy a license for it. 

Is microchipping mandatory for dogs within Brossard?

Microchipping is mandatory only for dogs covered by the restricted right of possession in Brossard. The guardian must submit an attestation of microchipping to the city at the latest by December 1, 2016. 

Must animals sold by pet shops in Brossard be sterilized?

Answer: Yes, since 2012, the sale of cats and dogs more than 6 months old by pet stores is prohibited unless sterilized and identified by microchip. Kittens and puppies less than 6 months old do not have to be sterilized. However, there is no reason not to microchip an animal at a young age.
