Running Water Equals Rising Bills

Consuming water responsibly and checking regularly to make sure there are no leaks in your home will lead to significant savings on your next bill.

Factors That Impact Your Bill

Certain factors may cause your water bill to vary:
  • Sudden water damage
  • Leaking toilet
  • Overlooked leak (e.g., a tap that has been dripping for a long time)
  • Frequent refilling of a pool/hot tub
  • Defective sprinkler system
  • Increase in the number of people living in the dwelling (more showers, dishwashing, etc.)
  • New owner/tenant (change in lifestyle habits)
*Leaks are not always audible or visible to the naked eye. They often come from toilets, taps, showers, etc.

You are responsible for calculating your water consumption, which is easy to do with our handy tool. You will find in the Useful Documents section to the right an online form to make your water consumption.

Meter Readings

Between mid-May and the end of June each year, agents from the City of Brossard read water meters from Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The bill is then sent to you around mid-September.
The actual meter reading is obtained by the City in one of the following two ways:
  • when the City agent visits the property
  • when the owner him or herself fills out the reading form with the correct figure and returns it to the City
If the City does not receive an actual reading, it will bill the owner using an estimated reading, determined based on the average billed amount for the past two years or an annual minimum of 350 m3, in accordance with the by-law relating to administration of the water supply and sewer system (REG-23).

If you have any questions about reducing water consumption or detecting leaks, consult the How to Detect a Leak section.
For questions about your water bill or notarized adjustment of a water meter reading when selling or buying a property, please contact Services Brossard.
