Owners of ash trees must obtain a permit, available free of charge at the Service Brossard counter (at the city hall), before treating their trees.
There is a pesticide called TreeAzin
, manufactured from an extract of the seeds of the neem tree, used to treat ash trees inflicted with the emerald ash borer (EAB). Depending on the level of infestation, this treatment may be sufficient to control the proliferation of the insect in your tree, prolong its life and possibly avoid having to fell the tree. This product is deemed to be effective on trees that show signs of defoliation of less than 30%. To maximize the chances of success, treatment should begin as soon as the EAB is found in your sector and before your tree shows symptoms.
TreeAzin is injected directly at the base of the trunk of the tree and protects the ash from this insect for two consecutive years.
Concerning the application of TreeAzin, municipal regulations stipulate:
- Only one treatment using the product TreeAzin is authorized;
- The treatment must be carried out by a contractor certified and recognized by the City;
- The treatment must be made between June 15 and August 31 of the same year;
- The treatment must be repeated at least every two (2) years.
